I think the word that sums up her first week of life is HEMATOMA! When Stella was born she had a hematoma on the right side of her head. It is like a big bump that was caused because of the fast delivery. Her doctor only released her in the 24 hours window if I brought her in his office the next day(Tuesday). So we did, he looked it over and measured it and told us that the thing he is worried about it when it breaks down it causes jaundice. So he wanted us to keep an eye on its size and her skin color and to come back the next day. The next day (Wednesday)we went in and she was starting to turn yellow. So he sent us to the hospital to have her foot poked. Well she had Jaundice and he had the beli lights sent to our house.
She was to spend all day in there expect to eat. Well she HATED the lights and wanted to be held and it was so hard to keep her in there and not to take her out. We wanted to hold our little girl. We went back into the doctor on Thursday and he said that her color was looking much better and that he wanted her to stay in the lights until Monday, but only for 12 hours. So we kept her in her lights all day so we could let her sleep in her bed at night. It worked much better than the day before, but was hard to have her in there when we wanted to hold her and show her off! On Monday, being 8 days old the doctor felt really good about her color and the size of the hematoma and said we were done with the lights! YEAH... and that we did not need to see him until her 2 weeks appointment. With all the running around to his office and the hospital after just having her, I was so exhausted and was glad to hear that I would have a break from him for a while!
